What Should Be The Gunnersʻ Realistic Expectations For This Season?

3500
I think it’s fair to say that most Arsenal fans ended last season somewhat disappointed, having thrown away our chance to finish in the Champions League positions. We certainly shared in that disappointment, but looking back, finishing 5th was something we would certainly have taken at the beginning of last season. On top of this, we have to be honest when looking at how this side would’ve fared in the CL, which could have been pretty embarrassing.

The best course of action for us is to recruit well this summer and look ahead to next season, but where can we expect to end up? Let’s take a look.

What the Bookies Say?

In terms of PL finishes Arsenal are currently 6th favorites to win the Premier League, at an average of 50/1. In fact if you fancy a wager then by all means do so by clicking here for decent odds. The reality however is that top 4 is not as far away as the bookies say, at least not from our standpoint. There is no doubt that Spurs will do well this season with better investment and Conte at the helm, annoyingly. With this being said however Chelsea and Manchester United look set to struggle again where we are concerned, Chelsea have an aging defense and have lost key players, no matter what investment comes in, rebuilding doesn’t happen overnight. The Gunners on the other hand have a solid base to build from, and can do great things this year with a more experienced side.

Domestic Trophies

Some Gunners fans suggest that we should forget all about domestic trophies and lay all of our focus on the league, and finishing top 4. Whilst the squad may be a little thin however, we can’t help thinking that the team really does have enough youth and energy to go after at least one domestic cup as well as the league. With regards to the Europa League, this is going to be a pain and whilst it may not be popular, we’d like to be out of that as soon as possible. The risk with Europa, as Spurs proved for so many years, is that getting stuck in that Thu-Sun vicious cycle is very easy.

Player Goals

This Arsenal team can no longer be considered as being young guns, this is the season that those players need to step up and become fully fledged experienced first teamers. Those young players have been through enough seasons, big moments, big disappointments and learned enough lessons to really shine now. Young they may be, but those players are not without experience and that is something which should help out the Gunners this season. Realistically the likes of Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli and Smith-Rowe should be shooting for the stars regarding their own stats this season, there really is no excuse.

This is going to be yet another testing season for us but here at Gunners Town we remain optimistic that Arteta will guide the boys well and with some welcome additions this could be a season in which we break that top 4 again.
