Is anyone honestly surprised? Didn’t think so.
The chances of Wenger stumping up the kind of cash a goalkeeper of Cech’s quality would cost for a 30-year-old were extremely unlikely. This, coupled with the fact that Chelseawould surely be unwilling to sell their first choice keeper to close rivals meant a deal never really looked to be on the cards.
But if Cech were desperate, I mean really desperate to jump ship then maybe a deal could be done? Perhaps the Czech international is keen to play with his countryman Tomas Rosicky? Maybe he is sick of the circus which the club’s off-field affairs and managerial changes have become? Possibly he just loves the colour red?
“It is an interesting piece of news but it is such speculation that I think it’s not even necessary to comment on it,” Cech told isport.blesk.cz.
“I know of nothing, nobody has contacted me and, to be honest, I can’t even imagine it.
Oh. Maybe not then.
“I don’t even normally notice such rumours. But when it does get to me, I naturally look at it to know what to say about it later.” Added Cech.
“There are players who do read newspapers. Some players read match reports to know what was written about them and where.
“I don’t do this, I don’t read newspapers because of such things. I don’t take rumours like this seriously.”
Terribly sorry Arsene – looks like you’ll have to search elsewhere.
