In this edition we look back on Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against Sevilla in Spain.

HEADLIGHT

Paul Hepker: The goal of the three Gabriels. Gabriel clears it to Gabriel, who Cruyff-turns and puts through Gabriel, who rounds the keeper to score.

Gary Lawrence: The way Declan Rice is getting more influential week by week. The run he made powering past three or four players was like watching Patrick Vieira and he was there to protect our defence when we were under the kosh.

Dave Seager: Tomiyasu. Simply brilliant and giving his manager some tough decisions in the coming weeks. Can we still control and create without Zinchenko, given how much better we are defensively with Tomi?

John Bordones: Jesus and Tomi: Jesus, injury plagued is a top tier 9. We haven’t had the luxury of having him fit for a full season, but in our system and with Martinelli and Saka on either side can be a deadly combo. Tomi – steady, w/pace and sure of his decisions, better as a first choice to Zinny’s occasional impact.

Nigel Evans: Tomi’s performance but a special mention to Jesus for his goal & assist.

Mike McDonald: The unpredictability of the first goal. Arsenal are getting back to being too predictable when they are trying to create a goal scoring opportunity. Jesus’s Cruyff turn changed the game.

Raya

LOWLIGHT

Paul Hepker: Raya had very little to do, and he didn’t do it particularly well. Again.

Gary Lawrence: The form of Odegaard and Saka has been a bit off the last two or three games. But they are such superb players I’m sure this is only a temporary blip.

Dave Seager: Odegaard’s average displays are a concern. We need his creativity to flourish.

John Bordones: Raya still trying to learn how to toe the company line from the consistent keeper he CAN be and the keeper Mikel WANTS him to be. He’s our #1 and there is no going back. Better keeper but still adapting to the role MA gives him.

Nigel Evans: I’m still not convinced by Raya, I may be old fashioned but I want a goalkeeper to stop goals being scored not be a great passer of the ball.

Mike McDonald: i’m not sure that if Arteta had that last 15 minutes back that he would play a 6-3-1 formation. It just invited crosses as the midfielders could not cover properly.

HEADLIGHT

Paul Hepker: Can we find a midfield combo that actively works in linking with our forwards? And will our forwards break through this wall of impotence they seem up against? Arteta is going to have to figure it out, or make some changes.

Gary Lawrence: With 6 points already in the bag and two home game coming up next we should be on 12 points to ensure early qualification so we can rest some players for the last of the Group games.

Dave Seager: Saturday is perhaps an opportunity to rest a few and give opportunities to fringe players in need of minutes to gain form and confidence.

John Bordones: Injuries and complacency. We are a deep squad and have enough to weather most anything but that also leaves us in a position that we can play how we want, when we want and think we’ll pull a result off instead of putting teams away…

Nigel Evans: We need a good performance on Saturday but I think this could be a game where some players could be given a rest.

Mike McDonald: The first 20 minutes against Sheffield United are crucial. We need to go and attack them with great intentionality. Even if we go a goal behind, we should be able to recover the game. This game should be shut down after 20 minutes.
