Gunners Town “Caviar and Sausages” Book Giveaway Competition

Gunners Town are delighted to be able to offer a copy of the great new book Caviar and Sausages: Arsenal in the Time of Wenger written by lifetime Arsenal fan Tony Kokkinos.

The book is a complete and colourful guide to Wenger’s 22 years in charge, and is endorsed by former Arsenal striker Alan Smith.

The Three Wenger Periods

Tony breaks down the Wenger era into three stages – the Glory Years, the Austerity Years and the Stagnating Years. As the title suggests, it recalls the Double Double and Invincible glory years (it’s easy to forget just how good Arsenal were), but does not shy away from dissecting the painful times like the nine-year trophy drought, the 5-1 hammerings by Bayern Munich and Wenger’s decline.

Battle Royales

Cool infographics look at the key and fun aspects of a revolutionary era including Battle Royale – the epic rivalry with Man Utd; Breaking Up The Band – how the Invincibles broke up prematurely; Wenger’s Beefs – with Alex Ferguson and José Mourinho; Signings – the Good, the Bad, the Strange; and The Curious Case of Theo Walcott. These are surrounded by 22 in-depth season reviews and pitch maps showing the typical line-ups. The book is also punctuated with interesting and fun anecdotes and stats featuring tasers, Malaysian betting syndicates and knuckle dusters.

The level of research and detail is impressive – Tony is clearly a passionate and knowledgeable Gooner with an easy writing style. Any Arsenal fan will enjoy reliving an always eventful era or learning about it for the first time.
