Norwich v Arsenal – Canaries Gunned Down!

WTTGT Reporter: Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal came from behind to defeat Norwich to seal their second successive premier league away win thanks to a double from their in-form captain Robin van Persie.

Arsenal made one change from the team who defeated West Brom last time out, with Per Mertesacker replacing the injured Carl Jenkinson with Laurent Koscielny moving to right back.

The first opportunity fell to Arsenal after 40 seconds when Theo Walcott raced down the right and cut back for van Persie but he scuffed his effort wide.  Gervinho then got down the left hand side and pulled back for Walcott whose shot was blocked for a corner.

Van Persie then saw his left footed strike go wide from the edge of the area, as the visitors started the game the brighter.  Another chance fell to the gunners as Walcott saw his goal bound effort cleared off the line by Russell Martin.

But against the run of play Norwich took the lead through Steve Morison as he capitalised on a mistake from Mertesacker to put his side 1-0 up.

Arsenal almost equalised immediately but van Persie could only shoot wide when well placed.

Martin then twice cleared off the line, first from a van Persie looping header, then to deny Gervinho.  The equaliser did arrive and deservedly so as Walcott raced away down the right and his teasing cross was turned home by van Persie

An entertaining first half ended all square.

Gervinho saw his weak header easily saved by John Ruddy at the start of the second half, before Anthony Pilkington’s free-kick was kept out by Wojciech Szczesny.

Robin van Persie then released Gervinho, the Ivorian rounded Ruddy but the keeper made a great recovery to keep the scores level.

The score did not remain level for much longer as Arsenal went ahead through their talismanic captain as he latched on to Alex Song’s pass to brilliantly dink over the keeper to out the gunners 2-1 up.

Pilkington just failed to connect with a cross from the right as the Canaries showed they still have some fight about them.

The final 20 minutes was set up very nicely, with the home team applying pressure and the visitors showing they pose a threat on the counter.

Walcott clipped the outside of the post as Arsenal sailed through the dying minutes to seal another three points.
