Transfer news – Frimpong returns, Park considering his options and Wenger wanted by France!

WTTGT Writer: Vivek Arulnathan (Site Editor)

Very little seems to be going young Frimpong’s way. The midfielder lost to Coquelin as the Frenchman was preferred by Wenger to stay at Arsenal due to his versatility. He joined Wolves and just as he was about to establish himself, he has managed to pick up a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee. It is worth noting that he was ruled out by a similar injury to his left knee in 2010. The fiery midfielder has returned to Arsenal and is likely to undergo surgery after consulting specialists, according to the club’s official website.

Anyway, here’s something that’ll surely cheer you all up! Arsenal’s marketing icon for Asia, South Korean skipper Park Chu Young, is reportedly looking for a way out of the club in the summer having joined them only in August. Arsenal caused a stir by stealing him from a hotel room when he was about to have a medical with Lille and such a drastic step momentarily suggested that Wenger had spotted a really good player but we all know now that the South Korean star is merely a marketing ploy of Ivan Gazidis to promote the club in Asia. I sincerely hope it’s not the same story with young Ryo!

I don’t blame Park though. He only has another year before reporting for military training and when the manager isn’t confident enough to bring you on when the team is 6-1 up against ten men with Persie in need of rest, it’s a clear indication that you’re not in his plans. Hope he has a great season next year at some other club.

And Wenger is currently Arsenal’s hottest property. Real Madrid want him because he has shown winning mentality, vision to create great teams that play the exciting football Madrid fans crave for and importantly, the ability to get the better of Barcelona. If given some cold hard cash, I can’t help but think that Wenger will end Barcelona’s superiority over Madrid. Whether he is willing to give up his ‘build teams’ philosophy remains to be seen.

But there is another player in the pack. France want him to take over the country after Euro 2012 from Laurent Blanc and they’ve got an emotional advantage over Real. Wenger just loves France and his stupendous knowledge of the country and it’s football will actually help the national team very well. If there is anyone who looks increasingly likely to leave Arsenal, it’s Wenger! The Gunners want a change and he is wanted by several parties so we are in for a nail biting summer.

And when I said Wenger was the hottest property, it’s because Barcelona have denied any interest in signing Van Persie. It’s great to hear that but don’t get too excited. If there is anything I’ve learned over the years about FC Barcelona, it is not to trust their words. For all their amazing football and titles, they’ve never managed to earn much respect, especially after that ugly campaign to sign Cesc Fabregas.
