Now, if it where only Manchester United interested in securing the services of Asmir Begovic this summer it seems doubtful they would end up paying £15m for him.
As it is, a whole host of top sides planning a swoop for the Bosnian and Stoke City are prepared to demand at least £15m and are hopeful of even pushing it up to £20m says The Daily Telegraph.
Wow.
Begovic has performed well this year, and although it’s something of a tallest dwarf award, has probably been the stand out player in a drab Stoke side. But still, £20m? This is going to have to be quite some auction.
According to Telegraph both Arsenal and Chelsea are seriously interested whilst Stoke apparently haven’t ruled out a bid from, bizarrely, Bayern Munich. Whether or not this indicates any actual interest from the German side is unclear though. Presumably Tony Pullis is also yet to rule out bids from Wyckham Wanderers, The All-Blacks and his mate Steve.
Begovic is ambitious and keen to play in the Champions League, but would also require assurances that he would be first choice at whichever club he chose to move to. This would perhaps make a move to Arsenal most likely (apart from the Champions League bit) as the Gunner’s number one Wojciech Szscezny has fallen out of favour.
Although do either United or Chelsea really have £15m spare to splash out on a back-up keeper? Surely Begovic would be coming on board as number one.
