Gooners keen to ditch skipper Vermaelen for El Capitan Arteta

the final day of the Gunners Town Awards where two weeks of voting comes to a
close. We unveil the winner of last week’s polls as chosen by you. The team have
given you their thoughts and now it’s time to reveal who you guys have voted

Today we discover the player who you’d most like
Arsene Wenger to hand the armband to next season. With Thomas Vermaelen
unlikely to retain his skipper duties due to his inability to hold down a place
in the starting XI, many have called for vice-captain Mikel Arteta to be given
the role on an official permanent basis; seeing as that he pretty much leads
the team out every match anyway.

And a massive 64% of you agreed that Arteta should
be made the permanent skipper from next term.

The full results are below as well as a selection
of comments from those who voted.

Arteta deserves it a thousand times over.

Cesc Fabregas.

I feel Mikel Arteta has all the quality and is a hardworking
man. Without him donning the armband, we would not have qualified for the Champion

It was telling that in the Newcastle United game, even after
injury and the resulting substitution. Arteta was on the touchline communicating
Wenger’s orders to those on the pitch. Arteta for me. Also DM/deep-lying
playmaker was Arteta’s original position in Spain before being moved further
forward. He does a bang up job for us there and I don’t see him being replaced
anytime soon.

Arteta for sure. Remember Chambo, Rambo, Jekinson, Gibbs, Walcott,
Le Coq are there and they may envy Jacky which could disrupt the dressing room.
More so, I fear Wilshere I’ll struggle to make our team next season. Rambo is
getting his old self.

Gunners Town Awards – Player you’d most like to be Arsenal
captain next season: Mikel Arteta

Thanks for voting!
