With all the reports
suggesting that there is a large amount of money available to be spent in the
transfer kitty, of at least £70m, the time has come for Arsene Wenger to bring
Arsenal back to the lofty heights of close to ten years ago.
club having to pay off debts for their new stadium, Arsenal have had to endure
a long drought without a trophy. With the money now available, unlike previous
seasons, Wenger needs to show his ability to push for trophies, both in the
league and in the cup competitions.
beginning of the 2004/05 season, Arsenal have only won one trophy, that being
the FA Cup in May 2005, where the club beat Manchester United 5-4 on penalties.
However, as Arsenal tended to always be fighting for trophies, many Arsenal
fans have become dismayed with the lack of trophies in recent years.
recent league positions have been consistent, but below what many expect for
the club. The finishing positions have been:-
the transfer money available, it has come time for Arsene to start spending.
It’s fine for people to say that it’s only early in the transfer window, but
signings need to fit into the club before the season starts.
Arsenal fans wanting to see a striker signed by the club, and Arsenal being
rumoured to be close to signing Gonzalo Higuain, it’s important that this
transfer occurs, if Arsene Wenger thinks this will improve the team. If there
is a more suitable option available, the club must still act quickly.
number of high-profile transfer options being reported in the media, such as
Higuain, Luis Suarez, Marouane Fellaini and Cesc Fabregas, it’s important that
Wenger looks to improve the squad. With money available, there is little option
for the manager to sign players if he wants to begin fighting for first
position in the league and pushing for cup trophies. This is due to the other
big clubs, the two Manchester clubs, Chelsea, etc, looking to always improve
their team and make adjustments to better themselves.
are a number of Arsenal fans who are sick of Wenger saying, “We’ll bring
players in if it improves the team.” Their view is surely if you’re
consistently third or fourth in the league, there are players who are available
who can improve the team and squad. I believe that this may be the defining
season for Arsene Wenger and whether or not he should get a new contract. If he
can prove his desire to fight for the top spot in the league, give him another
contract. If he doesn’t sign any players of note, this may have to be his last
what happens but c’mon Arsene, sign some players so we have a good chance of
winning titles again.
