Our editor wrote a blog recently voicing concerns about the future of the young English Core at Arsenal.
Yes we have a talented squad and no less than 6 of the Arsenal first team set up have featured for Hodgson’s England during eh qualifying period – Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshere and even Calum Chamber have pulled on the 3 Lions in the past 2 years.
Of the above I think we can say with some certainty that perhaps only one or even none if we are honest of the above England hopefuls would be in Wenger’s first choice 11 if his whole squad were fit. Theo may have a case at present but he is the only one.
Danny Welbeck before his long lay off however was on fire for England and actually top scorer in the qualifying campaign across the continent. He is now back in full training and will provide a welcome boost from the bench for Wenger but can he push late for the Euro squad – We know the England Manager is loyal to those who have performed for him.
Similarly Jack Wilshere went fit seems to be one of the first names of Hodgson’s team sheet even when he is not on the Arsenal one. He has a fabulous run for his country picking up MOTM after MOTM accolade in the Spring and early Summer before his injury curse struck again. Wilshere is a few weeks behind Welbeck and will need to challenge may colleagues for first team football in the final 2 months of the season to prove his worth.
Chambers is now way of the oace at Arsenal and Gibbs is struggling to dislodge Monreal at the Emirates. With Baines, Bertrand and Rose all playing weekly it may be tough for Kieran.
For Ox I fear his poor form the good form of Joel Campbell and return of Welbeck may see him struggle to get game time on Arsenal run in and he miss out on France.
Theo Walcott is not playing as well as we all know he can but his pace and his ability to play across the line may well see him stay in the squad. He is perhaps the only certainty.
Wilshere IF he cam stay fit and get game time will go to France and Welbeck may yet force his way back in, particularly if Sturridge fails to get back for Liverpool
