Since last weekend there has been a lot of chatter around the formation and how we can get the best out of the best we currently have on the books. I thought I’d take this and hopefully run it through the whole squad.
With 7 games to go and our realistic target of maintaining 6th set, it’s time to see this season out and set our stall out for next year and get LMAO join forces and give us something to look forward to in August.
For the next 7 games and next season:
Laca down the centre, PEA and Miki at inside right and left. It’s the old Dortmund formation with Laca in the Lewondoski role and that worked pretty effectively. Also Alex and Pierre would be interchangeable adding greater fluidity.
Ozil then pulls the strings at number 10 and LMAO could be one of the most formidable strike forces in Europe.
As stated above, this only works if the rest of the team is disciplined and this is where, I believe, things change between this season and next.
For now, Xhaka and Rambo hold the central roles. Their first thought must be to protect the defence and must restrict their first urges to bomb forward to and get amongst the attack force.
Next year, reinforcements are required. Either Granit or Aaron gives way to a more defensive minded player and my choice goes to:
Combative, gifted and intelligent and would provide the additional discipline to enable LMAO to flourish.
The defence needs to step up to the plate as well, the striking formation lacks natural width, so this needs to be provided by the full backs. We have the staff to do this. Montreal/Kolasinac on the left and Bellerin/AMN on the right.
But for this to work, the centre back pairing needs to be solid. At present, when fit, Kos and Mustafi are the best we have, but looking forward, I’m not convinced Kos can stay fit and am just not convinced by Mustafi. Therefore my second and third choice signings in July are:
Behind all this, Cech is a quality keeper but time is catching up on Petr and hopefully we will seek his replacement closer to home.
With Stoke RUFC (hopefully) dropping down to a long term sabbatical in the Championship,
The future England number 1, is a quality keeper who is only going to get better and hopefully he will do that at the Emirates
Also, pretty please, Julian Nagelsmann.
I’ve made my case for the young German before and stand by my vision of a future, post Arsene.
