Arsenal Crushes Tottenham in Worldwide Popularity Rankings

Arsenal Crushes Tottenham in Worldwide Popularity Rankings

As we all know, the North London Rivalry is one of the most heated feuds in the history of English Football. Being in such close proximity to one other, us fans have been divided from day one. But the passion and dedication of our supporters stands out like no other.

Last year, Mikel Arteta described Arsenal as being the ‘biggest club in England’. Our huge fan base and great successes over the years really has supported that. But the uncertainty of recent times and the results from last weekend’s match have left some fans feeling disheartened.

That’s why we decided to investigate how popular Arsenal is worldwide compared to other Premier League clubs. Focussing specifically on where the club stands in comparison to its historic rival Tottenham Hotspurs.

To do this, here at the football price comparison site Footy.com we analysed search engine data obtained from Google Trends surrounding the two teams.

We thought it was important to base our investigation on sheer interest as opposed to merch or sales tickets, TV viewings or a club’s social media following. This allowed us to capture a much greater proportion of each team’s fan base worldwide, as almost every fan has access to the internet.

To see exactly how we calculated each team’s popularity scores, the full methodology can be found here

Key Findings

The research found that Arsenal supporters are much more widespread than you’d think. Footy.com spokesperson Ben Hyde says:

“Arsenal finished at an impressive second place when just looking at interest in the UK, and also clinched the top spots in places like Japan, Ethiopia and Argentina.

The Gunners also proved extremely popular in Belarus, Sweden, Turkey, Armenia and of course Chile after the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.”

As you can see from the graphic above, Arsenal’s popularity has blown Tottenham’s supporters out of the water, with a score of more than double that of Spurs.

It’ll be interesting to see in the future how these popularity scores are influenced by factors such as new signings, the winning of major trophies and more.

AFC certainly wins WRT blowing their own trumpet but hasn’t it struck you lot yet that most THFC supporters no longer care or even worry about AFC as it is just another, if well run, London club and CFC are the real enemy as there are real cheats out there who do not squat or bribe but cheat financially and in an incredibly open, obvious way that makes the fair play rules a real joke. WRT on field the last 2 matches of AFC gave good results and not a few of us wanted you to win them but do get over THFC as we may not have forgiven you for past crimes but most of us have forgotten.

I confess I dislike arsenal deeply. You will always be the team I want to beat or be beaten by others. So sanctimonious Tottenham fans who say otherwise are talking shite. Love the rivals and the banter, long may it continue.

THFC are renowned for playing exciting entertaining football, AFC are renowned for playing boring dogshit football for over 100 years untill the Arsen Wenger era . Also THFC have suffered under ENIC and Levy having put the club through its most barren period of success since the 1940’s! THFC set records that can NEVER be equalled, let alone beaten, like the only club ever to win the FA cup as a non league club, the FIRST club to complete the double in rhe 20th century, the first British club to win a European trophy, the first club to win the fa cup 2 years running, which they did TWICE! SO , quality being more important than quantity, I argue that THFC are the BIGGER club!!!
