In the news today:
Former Gooner favourite, Robert Pires has been speaking to the Aston Villa official website ahead of tomorrow’s fixture. He’s quoted as saying he has ‘tunnel vision’ as he returns to the Emirates for what is likely to be a swan song finale in a Villa shirt.
The Arsenal Invincible told Villa journalist, Paul Brown: “I’m a professional competitor and I feel ready to play.
“I am still hungry to play. Every morning I am very happy.
“This is my job. It is fantastic, amazing sometimes, to play football.
Pires made his come back to the English Premier League earlier this year after a productive spell in Spain where he regularly featured for Villareal. He said: “My debut for Villa, of course, was against Arsenal and it was 2-4. For me it was difficult, because it was the first game. I wasn’t ready for the game.
“It was so quick – it was a shock. The Premier League can be so hard.
“Coming into this latest game, at Villa we have some players with the experience like Richard Dunne, Brad Friedel and James Collins. At Arsenal they don’t have these players.
“We can go there and win. I hope so, why not? Always when you play at the Emirates it is difficult but we can get a result.”
