Arsenal rising to new depths

WTTGT Writer: Dean ‘Praying for a miracle’ Scott

Booed off twice in pre-season friendlies…

Ladies and gentleman, the bottom of the barrel has been officially reached…

I am running out of words and hope in describing my beloved Arsenal. We played two games this weekend and managed to lead, yet not winning either game… again. Was it pre-season or just two extra games in the 2010/11 season? It’s OK because Wenger did point out that we didn’t concede from corners… phew! that’s OK then! Instead, we have decided to just concede from open play! Does it make a difference?

I know that friendlies are all about getting fit, but surely if you go into the season having got some good pre-season games in, it must help. Man City won, Man U won, Chelsea won, but thankfully Aston Villa didn’t! I say Villa, because they’re our new major rivals – for the ‘oh so important’ seventh place in the league.

We used pretty much all our squad for the games which is a bit of a worry as it’s not very good; even in friendlies Van Persie is the shining light! Please don’t make him captain as its sure sign he will leave us! A good idea (to get rid of them) would be to make any of the central defenders captain, apart from Tommy of course, (who by the way is going to need our sympathy this season, as he is a top quality farmer standing in field of dung). Even Johan, who I was a fan of, is developing Silvestre qualities. Squillaci reminds of the bride’s father dancing at the wedding. You know it shouldn’t happen and you know it’s embarrassing; you know he has two left feet but there is nothing you can do about. He is mistake waiting to happen, but sadly, it’s already happened more often than not before Arsène’s dragged him out.

On a slightly more positive note, I sadly got excited about us signing Jags from Everton; this is crazy, he is an above average defender and will no doubt make us better, but our problems at the back are more than just buying one player to solve it. It needs some high quality coaching which right now doesn’t look like it is happening, so it’d be great if we buy him, but maybe improve the coaching and if possible get TWO new centre-halves and move Tommy to left-back. I am convinced our current defenders are used to chucking the ball; in the need, they are scared to make any decisions regarding how to defend.

Regarding the gossip of Mata, so what? We aren’t short of creative players. Maybe Wenger’s plan (just joking of course, he doesn’t have a plan!) is to win games 6-5, though we all know we will be 6 up and be hanging on for a draw.

I reckon if you read this after the first few games of the season, this transcript will have proved what an iffy pre-season does to the start of the season.

um you do realise 20 years ago these weren't available to watch on tv and there was no internet? so people didn't bother with it? and teams went about their own way and what mattered was the season?

hmm 🙂 i miss those days. less whiny bitches

This is silly. Wenger rotates his squad in friendlies; that's not going to happen in the middle of each game during the season. Also, our defense might not be as solid as City's or Chelsea's, but it's not crap. Far from it.

Relax and let Wenger work his magic.

As you said this is a glimpse of future failure, hope all the in wenger we trust supporters will depart with their manager as the club will always be!!!

You know, it's sad seeing people get mental over games that were primarily meant to allow the manager to test as many of his players as he could. There was a piece at talkSport about whether the pre-season gave any kind of a suggestion as to what might happen during the season. Know what that came to? Nothing. Some teams lose half their games and enjoy great seasons, others win all games 10-0 and then slump when it comes to the real thing. Arsenal won all their pre-season games last season, did they win all the games in the EPL? Also, I see you don't enjoy having Wenger as the Arsenal manager, but you must know he definitely got one thing right last season, and that was that the Arsenal defence was statistically one of the best in the league well after mid-season. Those who claim it's been rubbish for ages, that it was obvious from the start, and so on, are clearly getting senile. If you say this Arsenal isn't the one you love, maybe you just forgot you love another club? Maybe you meant Swansea? seriously, get yourself a routine check-up before jumping into conclusions.

You are a fool. Please unplug your keyboard or (preferably) just close your site down.
Firstly, you make a grammatical error in the first sentence (it's 'off' not 'of' dickwad) and then we get onto your opinions. Well, I use the term opinions loosely here as it's all essentially just rehashed the same anti-Arsenal crap we are subjected to by the general media. Except this time the writer is leaning towards illiteracy and has no grasp of perspective!
We drew a friendly game against a team in the middle of their season and completely dominated territorially. Sure, we could/should have created more but until we changed half our team at the same time we looked to be closing the game out with ease. Not a great result, but as you claim to be aware of this was just a pre-season game for fitness.
I have faith in a lot of our current squad and although there are some potential weak links I see absolutely no reason for this ridiculous sensationalism from a supposed fan. Before the season has even begun, no less!

i think it was good 4 us to lose the emirates cup coz it will be a challenge 4 us 2 b serious.the last 3 or so years we have won this cup we have not been serious in other competitive/important games. We will be judged by the real showdown.
