Anybody hoping for a smooth quick transaction in the Juan Mata deal will have to wait, according to his father. Mr Rodriguez, yet another family man cum agent, said that any deal ‘could run until the end of August’ according to Metro.
Mata, who was the subject of an Arsenal bid earlier this week, is almost destined to leave The Mestalla this summer with a whole host of clubs being linked including Arsenal, Tottenham and Inter Milan.
Reports suggested last week that Mata’s contract held a £22m buy-out clause, which Tottenham matched only for the Spanish international to reject the advances of Arsenal’s north London rivals.
The latest reports suggest that this buy-out clause has now expired, and therefore Valencia, his current club, are more than entitled to hold out for a larger sum.
The question remains, are Arsenal willing to meet that larger sum? The case continues…
