TOTTENHAM 2-1 ARSENAL
Tottenham took the spoils in the first North London derby of the season, after goals from Rafael van der Vaart and Kyle Walker sealed a 2-1 win.
With Laurent Koscielny unavailable due to injury, Alex Song was paired with Per Mertesacker in central defence, with Francis Coquelin preferred to Emmanuel Frimpong in midfield.
The first chance of the game fell to the hosts when Scott Parker found himself clean through, but Wojciech Szczensy made a good save.
Arsenal then took control of the match in terms of possession but failed to create any clear cut chances, until good work from Robin van Persie found Gervinho in the penalty area but the Ivorian failed to hit the target, but he really should have put Arsenal 1-0 up.
The visitors were made to rue that missed opportunity in a moment of controversy when Rafael van der Vaart clearly used his arm to control a pass from Adebayor before slotting past Szczensy to put Spurs one up at half-time.
Arsenal will have felt hard done by as they were in control of the game, keeping the Tottenham players quiet, yet still went in at half-time behind.
But, five minutes after the restart, the Gunners grabbed a deserved equaliser when Aaron Ramsey tapped in after great work from Song down the left. Tottenham almost re-took the lead when Adebayor was one on one with Szczensy, but the Polish international made another impressive save to deny the former Arsenal man.
It was Szczensy, though, who was at fault for the Tottenham winner as he allowed a long range shot from Kyle Walker to slip past him to give the points to their North London rivals.
A game which two errors proved costly for the gunners in a match where they didn’t deserve to lose, which is becoming a recurring theme. The lack of urgency after falling behind the second time will surely disappoint the travelling support. After two wins from seven, Arsenal find themselves in 15thplace, 12 points behind the leaders and with a lot of work to do.
