ARSENAL 3-0 WEST BROM

Arsenal remained just three points off the top four after a comfortable 3-0 win over West Brom, thanks to goals from Robin van Persie, Thomas Vermaelen and Mikel Arteta.

Two changes from midweek, with Robin van Persie and Laurent Koscienly returning to the starting line up in place of Park and Per Mertesacker.

Arsenal players wore a special poppy shirt to commemorate Remembrance Sunday and a minute silence was impeccably observed before kick-off.

After a slow start to the game by both teams a 30 yard free-kick from Andre Santos which went high and wide was the only effort in the opening 15 minutes.

But Arsenal did take the lead on 22 minutes through their in-form captain van Persie, tapping home the rebound after Walcott had been denied by Ben Foster.

The goal did mark an improvement on the game overall with West Brom showing some attacking threat but it was Arsenal who got the second thanks to Thomas Vermaelen first goal of the season, driving home van Persie’s cut back.

The gunners went in at the break two up and looking comfortable.

The visitors started the second half the brightest, but Arsenal went the closest to scoring again but Vermaelen put his free header wide.

Aaron Ramsey could only drag a left foot shot just wide as the home team searched for the third goal to kill of the game.

Alex Song was next to be denied by Foster as the goalkeeper turned away the midfielders shot which was destined for the top corner. The third goal did eventually arrive thanks to Mikel Arteta as he curled his effort into the bottom corner to put an end to the game.

Vermaelen underlined why he’s been sorely missed with a great block to deny Simon Tchoyi.

West Brom did manage to force a couple of routine saves from Wojciech Szczesny, but it finished 3-0 to seal a fourth straight premier league win for the improving Gunners.
