Spurs are now better than Arsenal. I hate to say it and I know that I will be vilified by many fans for writing this article, but I have to say what I think is now an undeniable fact.
If you take out Van Persie, the most lethal marksman in the league, our team looks decidedly average. Okay, I’m being a bit harsh, I think Vermaelen, Song and Szczesny are all excellent players, yet funny how they’re all predominantly defensive players and our defence is still shoddy. Our attack, well it’s void of ideas.
I’ve managed to watch a few games on TV, but the last match I saw live was Wigan away. We dominated and beat them 4-0 but we rarely looked like we’d get out of second gear. Wigan, it must be said, were very poor that day. In fact, since that match, we have only managed to score more than one goal two times in seven games; a 2-1 victory away at Villa and last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Swansea.
The irony is, if we exclude the defeat to Manchester City, we have scored first in every other game since Wigan, yet dropped 8 points. And in each of those games we scored fairly early but rather than ruthlessly capitalise on the wounded opponent, allow them to get back in the game.
It has occurred to me that this team as a whole doesn’t have anything higher than second gear. There is no one, other than our captain, who is genuinely dangerous; Yes Walcott has pace, Gervinho is direct and Ramsey still has a lot to learn, but none of these players are half as talented as the likes of Ljungberg, Pires, Fabregas or Nasri. The team now looks void of that cutting edge that we have been used to in past Midfields. But what about Spurs?
As much as it pains me to say it, Bale, Van de Vaart, Lennon and Modric could easily walk into our current attacking midfield and as much as I love Song, Scott Parker has once again been superb. We currently sit 10 points behind the Spuds and honestly, I can only see that gap widening.
It is not however, all doom and gloom. Everton finished above Liverpool one season-but it has been far from the power shift I’m sure most Everton fans would have wanted, as the red half of Merseyside has resumed dominance. That said, Tottenham look to be the real thing whereas Everton had one very consistent season, probably beyond their expectations.
I’m not saying that Tottenham Hotspur as a club is anyway near as great as ours. Our history is rich and our consistency at the top level for the past 20 years is only bettered by Manchester United. But, if we are talking about the quality of this season’s teams, Spurs are better than us.
Why is this? More to come Gooners…

It pains me to say that so far this season the Spuds have been better than us. Jut take a look at the league table, it does not lie.
have to say that you're right. this weekend we are the weekest team in the sunday clashes, you'd put chelsea in fourth if you had to decide on the CL places, not us, in fact if we lose to Manu we're in desperate straits, we could see Liverpool and Newcastle cruising past us, and to be fair we look about as good as those two and no better. serious mistakes in the transfer market have cost us and we'll be even worse when RVP packs his bags, which he needs to do to fulfil any hopes of siloverware in his career. i wish him well. as for us, mid table mediocrity for a few years i think.
This is not shocking news… they have a better team and a better bench
They are a better team than us right now, and to talk about history makes us look like loserpool
You mentioned how we allow teams to get back in it. This is a coaching and managerial problem in that if we are better than the team we cant see them off. We tend to be tired towards the second half.
Spurs at this minute are a lot better than us because we have the most horrific injury in the whole land and probably the world: 10 are injured just one away from not fielding 11 players! 5 of which are 1st 11 players. In every game we play we seem to have twice or more players injured than our opponents. And this is just not this season, but every season I have known apart from the invincible season, which figures. The point is Wenger has no interest in sorting out the injuries whether it is that the players are weak (buy strong ones), the training regime makes players injured (change it, by changing the manager and coaches – cos WENGER WONT CHANGE) OR IT IS THE MEDCAL TEAM (get a new medical team which will cost money and Arsenal are not ready to spend as usual.
It must be remembered that Wenger and the board are reaping HUGE AMOUNTS FROM Arsenal’ coffers, and unless these accounts are audited by independent people we will not know by how much because the money cannot simply be sitting somewhere waiting as I have often heard. IF THAT IS TRUE THEN IT BENEFITS SHAREHOLDERS IN THAT THE PREMIUM INCREASES. So unless these anomalies are addressed then I am afraid we are in trouble. The last time Spurs were better than us was in 1962. Wenger and the board simply have to go because Arsenal is no longer a football club, but unofficially a football business.
Of course Spurs are better and we should not fear saying so. Their players are better man for man and their tactics are flexible according to the team sheets. Plus they are allowed to shoot. But then Spurs have a very shrewd Manager.
…and a better manager, too.
Wenger is crap!
Get wenger out now before we fall too far behind
Right now they are better than us but that is only due to the crazy number of injuries we have. When both teams are fully fit we are still the better team.
What I beleive is stupid is how we as a club can spend more money than any other on Sports Science and a state of the art Medical Centre and still have more injuries than any other club in the league. What is going on there? And with all this fancy medical equipment and GPS systems why do our injured keep suffering setbacks? Vermaelen, Diaby, Gibbs (twice) Sagna. I can't remember the last time an injured Arsenal player came back either early or on schedule.
And what is staggering to me is that Wenger acutally said back in late Dec / early Jan that he would look into getting a full back on loan because “it would be stupid to drop points because we have no full backs” and yet having already dropped 6 points due to having no full backs he says ahead of one of the biggest home games of the season “I'll assess left back options after Sunday”!!! W…..T…..F……!
Djourou's positional inexperience at RB is exposed time and again and Miquel was given the run around by Dyer last week. Considering Djourou got red carded v Fulham and we lost points and Dyer scored after Miquel left acres of space at the back v Swansea you can pretty fairly suggest that what Wenger said would be STUPID to do, he has in fact DONE!
Lennon straight into our squad?
Bale and maybe Modric are the only ones even close to our first choice eleven and Modric is their own little Fab-scenario for next summer, bank on that. As for Bale, ge was shite and they all wanted to sell him to a championship team if possible just 2 seasons ago since he was cursed (they never won a game when he was on field).
As for The injury wine, get your facts straight, we're not even top 2 when it comes to EPL this season or over a 5 year period (look är ManU stats this year for instance).
We have our faults n problems, I'll Five you that bit your “criticism” just real of daft ignorant Spud tabloid press of to the orter side of town the lot of ya!
