While many fans would have been dreaming about a certain Mario Gotze switching Dortmund for Arsenal, it is another young starlet, Thomas Eisfeld, who is on the brink of completing a move to the Gunners. Wide spread reports suggest that the 19 year old is currently in London and is likely to undergo a medical at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground.
The relatively unknown youngster is yet to make a significant mark in the Borussia Dortmund first team with the presence of Gotze making the task virtually impossible. His progress was also hindered by a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for almost a year.
But he has been in good form for Dortmund’s youth team with six goals from twelve games. He has shown tremendous attitude and mental strength to recover from what was a career threatening injury and his recent form has caught the eye of Arsene Wenger who certainly sees a great career ahead for the German. And his small transfer fee of around 400,000 suggests that Eisfeld is a gamble worth taking.
It’s not all positives though. Eisfeld is an extremely raw talent like Ryo Miyaichi and he will require good training and guidance to become a good player in the future. You can guarantee that under Wenger but given the injury he suffered, there is no reason to be confident he’ll develop into a world class star as such injuries leave lasting damage (Rosicky is the perfect example).
Moreover, Wenger is putting himself in a tight spot by signing yet another unknown player when fans are crying for some decent players to strengthen the first team. It proves that Wenger still believes in his youth project and for that unwavering confidence in his principles, I salute him. But Wenger’s biggest strength is also his weakness and especially during tough times like these, his stubbornness has been of very little help.
One just hopes Eisfeld turns out to be another of Wenger’s miracles so that we can all be happy that we didn’t spend 30-35 million on Gotze and instead signed an equally good player for as little as half a million.

Worth the risk … Know nothing about him and the only video i have been able to find is off a different player scoring a goal.
Disappointing that once again we have gone for a club with a player we all desperatley want to see at arsenal… but this should probably wake us all up to the fact that the scouts have been looking a different players. Our targets have never been Hazard or Gotze
Our targets certainly have been hazard/gotze but as u know how stingy wenger/board is. So many players they have missed out on just for couple of millions. One of the many examples r xabi alonso was certain to join arsenal but wenger offered 14m where as benitez wanted 16m. This was just 2 million more.16 m was a big, big bargain because the r.madrid bought him for over 25m.
