You Sahin that Cazorla Isco-ming to Arsene-al

Sometimes the transfer window makes Arsenal fans cringe; another player is leaving, business is not getting done, and Arsenal is linked with players that either cost an arm and a leg or are unknown kids that we won’ t care about for two seasons. This year is something different.

Arsene has been evolving his transfer policy, and in such a quiet and gentle motion that I haven’t seen it until just now. Somehow, I have become so accustomed to watching Wenger sign kids, that I have missed the bigger picture. Arsenal are buying tangible assets that will be going into the lineup, producing results.

In previous windows it looked like Arsenal was going to sign one player to play a position and the promised land was coming. Then that player would be snapped up by somebody else; or when the player was available, he wasn’t needed by Arsenal. Now it looks like Arsenal can do the snapping up, and roles are there for the taking. Arsenal are noticeably bare for the start of the season in the midfield. Aaron Ramsey is playing with Great Britain, and will need a week or two at London Colney before slotting in to the first team. I do not feel that the first team is the place for him at the moment, but with confidence and a strong Olympics I would be happy to be proven wrong. It’s a win-win for me. Someone plays who is better than Ramsey in current form, or Ramsey comes in, plays better than my expectations. Either way, Arsenal would be winning, and that is all I need to get me through a day in the office. Rosicky is injured, Wilshere is being eased back in to it, Benayoun is gone back to Chelsea. For Sunderland on August 18 Arsenal have Song, Arteta and the OxCart in the midfield. That’s pretty decent, but they cannot play 90 minutes in every game till October. The end of September is a dense collection of matches.

Gooners should be happy with the possibility of one or a combination of two of the following players. The load of Nuri Sahin would be a nice bit of business for Arsenal. He has the moves, he has the ability, but his heart is tied elsewhere. We went through that with Benayoun, and I feel that it worked well. I love the concept of bringing in a player on loan. They have fight and desire in them, and while they may not care as much for the club, they are the true players on the hunt for a contract. Sahin on loan would be great for Arsenal. Get a guy with a chip on his shoulder, get him for all he’s worth and then no fuss no muss when he leaves. The stumbling block appears to be the loan clauses. Arsenal reportedly want an option to make the loan move permanent, the player does not want that, and the Special One is not saying much either way. It could be a 4 month deal until the “Like a New Signing (LANS)” people come back.

Santi Cazorla, the most interesting of the lot, centrally he can do it, but the licence to roam is where his impact will be felt. His move could be completed within minutes, even as I write it looks like he is coming. We have agents everywhere, even in the airports of Andalucía. Remember that, we’re watching you! But for €20m are we getting both feet?

Isco or Francisco Román Alarcón Suárez is an interesting twist on the Cazorla story. With Malaga apparently worse off than anyone released the fire sale is apparently on. I do not buy that, as Malaga, a Champions League team, will not unload their team beyond that which is completely necessary. So Isco, an interesting prospect (has some forming to do, maybe on loan back to Malaga) is unlikely to be flying over France and crossing the channel.

When Arsenal last went through this form of coming of age, the internet was a new sensation, and I was in grade school.  And a few shorts years after that we had double and then something called the invincibles.

P.S. Juve apparently in for €70m for RvP. Let the shenanigans begin.
