Arsenal to land French star on the cheap?

While Arsene Wenger claims that he trying his hardest to find the right player for the club, Arsenal have continued to be linked with another midfielder.

Despite the fact that vice-skipper Mikel Arteta’s injury is not as bad as first thought, the Gunners have once again been linked with Bordeaux’s Yoann Gourcuff. The 26-year-old has been under the Arsenal radar for years now since attracting interest from his days at Rennes.

We were reported to have made a move for the player in 2009 but, unsurprising, Wenger was put off by his £20m price tag. Since then Gourcuff has endured a torrid few years having been dogged by injury as well as off-field problems.

Now at Lyon, Gourcuff also had a spell at AC Milan and could be available for as little as £3m. Personally, if he has gone downhill that much then I would not bother with him. I don’t know why we wouldn’t just use Tomas Rosicky instead. Hell we may as well go and get Burger King Michael Johnson himself.

I feel that we need better quality that Gourcuff if we are to improve our current “very good” squad, someone who is more in the Wesley Sneijder bracket.

However, it would not surprise me if we didn’t bring in a proven midfielder at all, seeing as that Arteta will hopefully be back sooner rather than later.

“Arteta’s injury could be shorter than three weeks because it’s a minor calf strain,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website. “It’s a light grade one so it could be quicker than three weeks.”

So this is not for me personally, but what do you think?
