Gunners Town Awards – Player you’d most like Arsenal to buy this summer; Vote here!

Today we are taking a new direction in our awards. So far this
week we have had awards that reflect on the season just gone, but this weekend we’re
doing things a little differently.

Today’s
award is the Player you’d most like Arsenal to buy this summer, to mark the
beginning of silly season. However, there is a sense that this summer could be
the one that we have been waiting for. Many have tipped Arsene Wenger to get
his wallet out this year and shell out money on a number of top signings in
order to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title next season

With that, below are some names that our
writers want to see playing in red and white next season.

Batmandela – Robert Lewandowski

38 goals and 15 assists out of 56 appearances this
season. (And those 4 amazing goals in the CL semi-final against Real Madrid!)
We need a striker who can deliver on half-chances. Someone who won’t hamper our
other goal-scorers, but has the positional sense and ability in tight spaces to
convert all those beautifully created, but squandered half-chances. The crosses
to no-one, the delicate through balls, the fleeting opportunities wasted in the
6-yard box. Those missed chances severely hobbled our season.

I know this will never happen – I think Man U have
their sights set on him, but I think he could perfectly complement Giroud, Walcott,
Podolski, Cazorla and Wilshere.

And he’s only 24.

Darren Wright – David
Villa

David Villa simply because I love the man like a
brother. I’ve followed his career since the Stone Age and despite the fact he’s
no spring chicken I think he’d still have a great deal to offer.

Steve Wellman – Higuian & Capoue

Higuian – A proven
striker to give Giroud competition / support

Capoue – A solid DM to
play alongside Arteta or Rambo & do the uncomplicated stuff

Chris Moar – David Villa

As controversial as it sounds, David Villa would be
my choice. As someone who’s watched him for years, he’s grown on me a hell of a
lot. David Villa would add a winner’s mentality to the side with the Euro’s
& a World cup to his name. Not to mention La Liga and Champions league with
Barcelona. He’s stupendous and extremely clinical. He’d give us two-three years
of brilliance, and I’d never turn my nose at that for a measly £9M.

Ryan Baker – Wayne
Rooney

This may not be a popular choice, but I’d love us
to buy Wayne Rooney. His work ethic is questionable at times, but I believe
with his goal scoring experience and hunger for glory, he could be just the
signing we need. He ticks all of the boxes we need too – English, proven
quality, big money involved; what’s not to love?!

Chris Mader- Marouane
Fellaini

That’s a difficult one but I would vote for
Felaini. Simply as I think he’s the kind of player we lack. He has physical
presents, always a thread in the box and not goal shy. I think he will go
United though.

Michael Jeffares – Javi
Martinez

Javi Martinez. He’s probably one of the best players I’ve seen live (and I’ve seen a
few). His discipline and strength in the centre of the park is amazing and
given our need for physical centre midfielder that can defend, he’d go a
long way to helping us win a trophy.  I know it’s never going to happen.

Andy Wood – Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney. He`d be an absolute monster for us up
front ( yes UP FRONT, not stuck in Midfield or on the flanks ) make him the
main man, show him some Wenger love, put an arm round his shoulder and
watch him fire us toward silverware. He`d get 25 goals a season but more than
that he`d instil hard work and a high energy pressing game from the front. If
he is available we need to be in there for him. Forget his fee , forget his
wage.. the real question is can we afford to let him slip through our fingers?
He`d be perfect for us and in return I honestly believe we`d be perfect for
him.

Dave Seager – Morgan
Schneiderlin

Everyone knows it is Morgan Schneiderlin or Lukaku
from the EPL. From outside the league I would say Cesc Fabregas

Abayomi Aje – Wayne
Rooney

Wayne Rooney. The bragging right, the statement of
intent and everything
else. He can play the false nine role for us effectively, can play up top
alone or as a second striker. This one will delight me if it happens.

Matt Littlechild – Wayne
Rooney

I’m not someone who can
claim to have in depth knowledge on the variety of players we’re linked to, so
providing info on the player I’d most like Arsenal to sign would be more based
on what I’ve read rather than familiarity. It’s easier for me to look at
Premier League targets who I watch on a regular basis, and links to the likes
of Wayne Rooney are obviously hugely promising (despite the fact I think it’s
unlikely), and would be a real signal of intent and ambition if we could pull
off a signature of that caliber. An imposing defensive midfielder in a Vieira
type mold, a goalkeeper to really put pressure on Szczesny and a quality goal
scoring center forward are the sorts I think we should really be going for,
plus another right back if we lose Bacary Sagna. It’s nearly always impossible
to guess just what Arsene Wenger thinks though…

John Woods – Javi Martinez

Anyone who follows me knows I hate transfer
bullshit talk, but when the question is phrased this way then I’ll say -Unrealistic –
Javi Martinez, Less unrealistic – Mesut Ozil, Realistic –
Sami Khedira… Cheaply – Andreas Weimann… But we need
goals/creator more than any so Ozil for me…

Anna Lvova – Edinson Cavani

Whomever manager sees fit. I would really love a proper
Falcao/Cavani type striker though.
