Away Day Toon Despair – ‘Disgusting’ Mustafi scrapes a ‘1’ In Player Ratings

Arsenal lost their 11th game of the campaign, their 9th away from home as their search for an away point in 2018 continued. The London side took the lead through Alex Lacazette before goals either side of half time from Ayoze Perez and Matt Ritchie saw Arsenal lose on the road again, below are some player ratings from a grey day in the North East.

Petr Cech- 3, Another poor performance, Cech was beaten at his near post for Ayoze Perez’s equaliser and lack any real command in the Arsenal penalty area.

Calum Chambers- 4, Chambers was often beaten in the air and looked but wasn’t the worst figure in a abysmal defensive Arsenal team, struggle to see a future for him at Arsenal.

Shkodran Mustafi- 1, Another disgusting performance from Mustafi who is becoming one of the worst signings in our recent history, poor positioning, awareness and strength, he was so poor yet again and was beaten by Ayoze Perez in a similar fashion to Shane Long last week. Abject, absolutely abject.

Disgusting!

Rob Holding- 5, Holding was again not brilliant but he looks a shadow of the player who bossed an FA Cup Final last season, he will never improve under the dinosaur that is Arsene Wenger, but was one of only THREE players to come over at the end, shocking!

Nacho Monreal- 4, Baffling as to how Nacho played 90 in Moscow on Thursday and another 90 here, he struggled to get forward enough to support attacks and was often weak in his challenges.

Mohamed Elneny, 5, another who played 90 on Thursday and 90 here, Elneny looked tired, his passes were wayward and didn’t make anywhere enough penetrating passes.

Granit Xhaka, 6, Xhaka returned after illness on Thursday, struggled to create anything from deep and didn’t have any support from his fellow midfielders and wide players.

Joe Willock- 3, Willock was chucked in at the deep end for his Premier League debut, he looked weak and out of place, as well as scuffing a massive chance to give Arsenal the lead, not the best of debuts.

Thrown in the deep end

Alex Iwobi- 2, Iwobi showed why he shouldn’t have any future at Arsenal football club, he was poor in decision-making, passing, shooting, he’s just another player happy to collect a wage. Terrible footballer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang- 6, Didn’t get anywhere near enough support, however, he provided the assist for Alex Lacazette to open the scoring. Hopefully he’ll be in a side with Özil, Ramsey and Mkhitaryan soon and not Iwobi and Willock.

Alexandre Lacazette- 6, Scored with a very good finish after Aubameyang’s cross, but similar to Pierre, was not supported anywhere enough and found himself in deep positions trying to get the ball.

Danny Welbeck-5, Didn’t find the rhythm and quality which he had on the Thursday to turn the game around.

Eddie Nketiah-5, Didn’t have enough time to influence proceedings.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles-5, Again, he didn’t influence going forward, look alive when he came on and probably should’ve started.

Arsene Wenger- 1, Arrogance and shocking team selection from him ended with another away day horror show, I’m not sure how long he can continue with this type of performance now every other week it seems, absolutely praying he leaves at the end of the season.

Alexs spot on article and player ratings the best I havr seen from any arsenal blog (and I read them all trust me!) post newcastle away result. Good to.read something that is straight to the point and in relation to players’ performances doesn’t allow subjective notions (age of player, whether you like a particular player, their better past performances etc.) effect their ratings. Each arsenal game should be analysed like this in my view. Agreed with all that you stated and believe that you clarify well that many of our players in the current squad young and old are simply not good enough quality wise. That our manager cannot actually see this “baffles” (to use his own post-match comments!) most clear thinking gooners (you and I oncluded). Thanks for reinforcing my own thoughts and ideas online.

I agree with you about Mustafi, The first thing anyone could do as a move forward would be to get rid of him.
