The Captain Collective
Back in August last year, Unai stated that;
“In my career, I want leaders in the team. The representation for every player and in every time in the season there is the capacity to do that. Maybe there will be more leaders in the team to show this captaincy, not just in the captains’ group. But these five players are in this possibility to be the captain.”
Emery was determined to put his mark on the club, to set himself apart from Wenger and the normal conventions.
However, Thursday’s events, seem to have put the final nail in the Captain Collective.
Koscielny; Head of the Collective and club stalwart.
Refuses to fly to the US for the pre-season tour, amid rumours of demands to be released a year early to rejoin Lorient or perhaps Bordeaux
Another captain bites the dust.
Özil; The strangest choose in Team Captain.
Not one for rallying the troops and rarely seen to raise his voice, unless it’s to bitch about Unai behind his back after being hauled off in the ELF.
Cech;
Now back at Chelsea, so unlikely to have much influence on the team from there.
Ramsey; They wanted him to be Captain, then they didn’t want him at all, so he buggered off to Juventus.
Xhaka; Not assured a place in the team and captaining from the bench is not a proven success.
Unai, it’s time to choose the ONE, please choose wisely this time.
