A passionate guest post from frequent Gunners Town contributor, Carly Williamson (@digitalbooby on Twitter). Welcome back, Carly!
Nerves are stretching. Tempers are fraying. Bums are squeaking. It’s understandable to a certain extent as it’s been a long time since we’ve come anywhere close to competing and we’re frightened to hope – this ain’t our first rodeo and we’ve been hurt before.
Unfortunately we’ve had a couple of games where we’ve performed poorly by the high standards we’ve set this season, and it’s worrying fans. This has been compounded by absolutely horrendous officiating which could have been the difference between a loss and a draw, or a draw and a win.
We’re not used to having confidence in our team, we’ve been let down so many times previously that we think we know how this goes. The seemingly unstoppable juggernaut that is Manchester City is going to do what they do and take the top spot from us on Wednesday, causing the team and fan morale to drop and the poor results to carry on.
There’s one group of fans that are straight to the negative, they can’t help it, that’s their Modus Operandi. It’s a self protection thing, they’re probably like that in their lives, personally I’d find that an exhausting way to live. There’s the other group that just bleat ‘support the team’ like mindless drones, like being worried about what happens next and voicing it makes you less of a fan and you no longer support them. Where do they get that idea?
Personally I’d rather be us than City, the team being investigated for financial irregularities (finally), the robots, the beige and generic nobodies that bought it all. They may win the league of course but they’re still Manchester City. No heart, no soul.
Now is the time for guts and guile. We can’t ask that of our team if we don’t show them we believe in them. North London Forever, is it? Fine, then fucking show it.
We may not win the league, but we can, and therein lies the promise. Be brave. Clench fists. Enjoy the ride.
Up The Arsenal. Always ❤️
Well said Carly.
Didn’t know you wrote but glad this was my first read of your work. North London Forever
