Welcome to the Goonerverse!
Consider this a portal into the poetic minds of regular, everyday Gooners like you and me! A place where there is no judgment – no good or bad – a place where you can let your inner poet off its leash for a while… Share in a poem what it means to support The Arsenal with your fellow fans. Anyone can do it!
Just submit your poem, along with a short bio, and where in the world you support The Gunners from, (and hey! why not a photo of the poet, too?!) to <goonerverse AT gunnerstown DOT com>. Paul and Dave can’t wait thread your words.
Today’s submission is “Never 25 with Arsenal” by Dave Seager.
“Never 25 with Arsenal and me”
by Dave Seager
You went to games in 2002 and 2004 with me
You were privileged to watch greatness with me
You saw us win the league at Highbury with me
Your saw us overcome the Galácticos and Juve with me
You were there as we left Highbury, not sure why you wept with me
You saw us lose in Paris with me
You witnessed the move to a shiny new stadium with me
All before you were even 12.
We overcame Barcelona—you shared that great night with me
You saw us score five past the Spuds with me
And repeat.
You went to Wembley with me
You saw us lift the FA Cup with me
You saw Wenger leave, with me
You saw me write a book about him
All by the time you were 24.
I will see more, but not with thee
You were never 25 with Arsenal and me

Passionate fifty-something Arsenal supporter who has been making the journey to N5 regularly since the early 1980s – although his first game was in 1976. Always passionate when talking about The Arsenal, Dave decided to send a guest blog to Gunnersphere in the summer of 2011 and has not stopped writing about the Gunners since.
He set up his own site – 1 Nil Down 2 One Up – in February 2012, which he moved on in 2016 to concentrate on freelance writing and building Gunners Town, which he launched with Paul in 2014.
The objective of GT was to be new and fresh and to give a platform for likeminded passionate Arsenal fans wishing to write about their team. Dave still of course, writes for the site himself and advises the ever-changing writing crew.
