In the news today:
Ivory Coast forward, Gervinho has sealed his move to north London according to The Sun. The Lille striker has been linked with Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle throughout the summer but has finally sealed his long awaited transfer.
“I chose Arsenal because it’s a young group within which I will be able to integrate easily,” said Gervinho. “I could develop more over there. There’s only a few details left to sort out.
“A risk? Not at all. I’m going to Arsenal to play. The best risk to take is to look to score goals and to play a lot.
“In football you have to take risks if you want to win. I’m going to Arsenal to win.”
It is thought that the striker, who bares a slight resemblance to former Gunner, Emmanuel Adebayor, will sign a four year deal worthg £60,000 per week.
So basically any black guy with dreds is a Drogba/Adbayor lookalike according to this article ?
I have to agree with Jonny Martin. Gervinho's abnormal forehead should have stopped any lookalike shouts (apart from some creatures from Star Trek or something).
As for the player…. well, he's average at best. We should have signed Ashley Young, but Wenger's obsession with frankophone-African players and/or young boys prevails over common sense.
WENGER OUT NOW!!!
Dan what do you know about Gervinho ? It's funny how some fans assume that a player is brilliant just because he's on the fringes of the England team. Gervinho is a star in an Ivory Coast team which is as good if not better than England so to suggest that he's well behind Ashely Young who's not even a regular starter for England and is 4 years older is ridiculous. It's time some of you realised, England are c**p, we've always been, always will be and foreign players are certainly not automatically worse than English players. Have you ever seen Gervinho play Dan ?
To suggest that the basis of my claims that Gervinho is average is international snobbery/xenophobia is absolutely ridiculous. I don't care what Ashley Young (or Gervinho) does internationally, I only care about their club form. Ashley Young has torn up the Premier League for Villa and looks like his style would be perfect for Arsenal. He's a known quantity in this league. Gervinho, on the other hand, plays in a lesser league, and even if he were a better than average player, he'd still need a season or two to adapt to the league (like Nasri, Malouda, Drogba, etc.).
I stand by my claims, we won't be challenging for major honour next season if this is the calibre of player that Wenger the coward is intent on signing (as well as a new legion of young boys of course).
WENGER OUT
Ok, perhaps Young is a good player, i was a bit harsh. Gervinho is also a fantastic player. Hazard won the player of the year because he has more flair but Gervinho had more assists and more goals than him. You can say that the French league is poor but many of the worlds' best players have come from that league and you could even argue that it's as competitive as both the German and Italian leagues right now. Gervinho is a great dribbler and a direct attacking player who makes things happen in a similar way to Arshavin but with more pace and with the potential to improve beyond what Arshavin is capable of. The fact that he doesn't fear the competition for places at Arsenal is very encouraging.
Do you eat your words now Dan?? well, 3months into the new season, if RVP scores the most its gervinho who creates the most with his direct running and precise passing..
