In the news today:
In a completely fresh rumour for 2011, Arsenal have been linked with young Republic of Ireland international, James McCarthy. The Wigan midfielder enjoyed a great season last year in keeping the Latics in the Premiership and could now be the subject of an Arsenal bid.
McCarthy, 20, signed for Wigan in 2009 from Scottish side, Hamilton Academicals, and has gone on to international honours in Giovanni Trappatoni’s side.
The arrival of McCarthy would almost certainly suggest that Cesc Fabregas’ future does indeed belong in Barcelona, however Liverpool are also interested in the young midfielder according the Metro.
The stumbling block could well be the fee that Wigan would demand – up to £20m. With Charles N’Zogbias move to Aston Villa pending, it is unlikely they’ll be willing to lose another key player just weeks before the start of the campaign.
McCarthy looks a tad handy in a Wigan shirt
