In the news today:
Arsenal have indeed confirmed the signing of their latest boy-wonder in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The England U21 moves to the Emirates from Southampton on a ‘long-term deal’ according to Arsenal’s official website.
He told The Sunday Mirror last week: “Southampton, and especially the fans, have been brilliant to me ever since I broke into the first-team.
“It has been fantastic helping them to get promoted. But now I feel I’m ready to play in the Premier League.”
The youngster was fined two weeks’ of wages recently by former club Southampton following his public admission on Twitter to leave the Saints.
Arsène Wenger said: “We are delighted that Alex has decided to join us.
“He is an exciting young player who will provide us with creativity and offensive quality.
“Alex is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions.
“He can play as an attacking centre midfielder, or wide left and right.
“Alex is a perceptive passer of the ball and has a great understanding of the game and looks to be a very good team player.”
The move, although a positive step for the future of Arsenal Football Club, once again raises concerns as to why Wenger will spend big on youngsters, but not so much on proven quality.
Good Luck young man I hope he isn't thrown in to the fray to soon and talk of him being a replacment for Na$ri is a bit premature.
I well believe that he should cope in the premier league, alex looks a nice buy and should be another attacking force that we needed last season, although it doe's raise the questions again, where is our centre backs promised all the good ones have gone!
i am glad that finally Wenger is signing players that are interested in being at arsenal (carl, gervinho, alex) and not those that see arsenal as a stepping stone to man city or barca…. Good work, now please buy a defender or two?
