In the news today:
As the transfer window edges ever closer, Arsenal are still in search of that elusive defender that’s been craved for some 18 months.
One player that could fit that job description is German international, Per Mertesacker. The 26 year old has been talking up a move to England in the press and is known to be on Arsenal’s shortlist of options.
He told German newspaper, Bild: ‘For a national player it is a good thing to get experience of playing abroad.
‘I have said that England excites me.’
Mertesacker currently plays for Werder Bremen and would command a fee of around £7-10m. At 6’5, the giant centre-back could provide answers to the ongoing frailties defending set-pieces.
I`d prefer Cahill but I get the gut feeling Dalglish will get there first, so, an experienced international 26 years of age, six feet five inches tall ,with a desire to play in the EPL seems the best option on the table to partner Vermaelen…..oh! yes, I nearly forgot, the price is right. Still prefer Cahill.
Where the hell did he say he wants to play for us?
@Usman Saeed: He said about a year ago that he is a huge Arsenal Fan and that he supported us when he was a child. So with that in mind he kinda said that he wants to join us. I think he would be a great addition to the squad, because he is experienced on the highest level and has shown against great teams such as Spain, Italy, England that he can copied with their strikers.
I supposed Per will be a good addition, rathered than some of the overpriced EPL defenders linked to Arsenal.
Wenger would never spend 7 million on a vastly experienced international he will spend 15 million on an unknown 17 year old defender from france
a good prospect.there is something that i like about germans ,they have a never say die attitude.i like their fighting spirit unlike other nationals who just get into their cacoon when down.wenger sign him as an answer to the rugby teams in the league;stoke, blackburn et al
