Nicklas Bendtner will have left the field at 4.50pm on Sunday feeling a lot happier with his performance than he would have six days earlier.
The 6ft 3in striker – or is it 6ft 5in (there’s been so many conflicting reports I’m not even sure he knows) – was one of Sunderland’s star men as the Wearsiders swept away Stoke at the Stadium of Light.
We’ll call him a ‘big lad’…
Despite being a big lad himself, coming up against Stoke’s centre halves is usually one of the toughest tests of the season for any striker.
But, Bendtner showed how good he can be on his day with a busy performance that earned himself third place in the Man of the Match stakes on Sunderland’s official website.
It’s also fair to say that if Jonathan Woodgate hadn’t of beat the big Dane in the air, he would have had his first Sunderland goal. Seb Larsson’s teasing cross was just about to land on the head of Bendtner before Woodgate stretched and headed past his own goalkeeper.
In the lead up to the game the 23-year-old said his aim was to score a goal every game. A bit optimistic perhaps, even by Wayne Rooney’s standards.
However, you can’t fault his positive outlook – especially with the mood around his new club so far this season, which has been poor at best.
One thing is for sure, though, the Wearside faithful left the ground on Sunday feeling a lot more certain they have bagged a player with genuine quality, and everyone at the club will be hoping it’s a platform he can now build on.
With newly promoted Norwich City away next in front of the Sky cameras, Bendtner will be keen to show any on looking Gunners’ fans what they are missing.

ive always thought of him as a good player with potential to be a top player, its a pity wenger didnt give him more time in his preffered position which is upfront, in and around the box, if he does really well at sunderland i guess he wont wont be coming back to arsenal, it will be a loss because of the attributes bendtner posseses.
Bendtner unquestionably has the potential to be a top quality player. At Arsenal he was not going to displace Van Persie up front, he couldn't hack it playing on the wing. He just didn't fit into AW's plans of having versatile, fast, technically good players.
