Arsenal lead race for Williams

The Mail has reported that Arsenal have leapt ahead of Liverpool in the two way battle to sign centre back, Ashley Williams. Talks are said to have taken place with his representatives last week and the North London club are now favourites to land his signature.

Brendan Rodgers will no doubt have something to say about this. After leaving Swansea there was talk of an agreement that he wouldn’t return to poach his former players, Rodgers appears to have interpreted this agreement to mean that he should regularly go back to try and poach his former players.

His success rate thus far is fifty per cent, midfielder, Joe Allen saying yes but young, Icelander Gylfi Sigurdsson saying a resounding no and choosing Spurs instead.

Both teams appear desperate to bolster their defensive options by acquiring the Swansea captain and there will doubtless be much toing and froing before the English-born, Welshman decides which variation of red he will be wearing next season.

Surely the twenty eight year old has never been so popular. After his early season attempt to “kill” Robin Van Persie, he could be forgiven for thinking that crime does indeed pay or at least that he’s suddenly being confused for his female, American namesake.
