Liverpool vs. Arsenal Preview
Premier League – Sunday 27th August 2017 – Anfield
Liverpool and Arsenal are similar in many ways. Both have achieved great success in the past, and desperately want to recapture those times. They also have great attacks, and woefully bad defences.
Their opening results have been pretty mixed too. Liverpool drew at Watford, then beat Palace unconvincingly. Arsenal on the other hand did well to beat Leicester, despite poor defending and organisation, but fell badly at Stoke City. In the CL qualifier Liverpool beat Hoffenheim comprehensively, however did concede goals in the process. A look at the weekend football betting tips should give you an idea of how tough this game is to call.
This game looks like a battle of two defences and attacks, and whoever can hold their nerve in both areas. For Arsenal, it is pretty much vital to bounce back following an insipid attacking performance at Stoke.
These may be some telling points for Arsenal:
Alexis
Sanchez has missed some games due to an abdominal tear, though he may be fit for this game. If he is, then it’s primed for him to be a saviour for Arsenal here. He is Arsenal’s outstanding player, and could provide the incisiveness in front of goal that was lacking at Stoke.
Ozil
Ozil may start, and he will need a top performance to silence the haters. Want to place a bet on Ozil starting or other football related bets? Start here for the best odds from top-rated bookies.
Ox or Bellerin
Wenger has a dilemma between utilising Oxlade-Chamberlain or Hector Bellerin. Both are pacey, though Ox is perhaps more explosive and has a better final ball. Contrarily, Bellerin is defensively superior to Ox.
Holding to return?
As Mustafi is now fit, will Wenger play with recognised centre-backs? Holding had a poor game vs. Leicester, though he should still be included in the squad at least.
Will Wenger switch to a back four?
Wenger seems to have discovered a new tactical flexibility, but will he drop the three at the back for this game?
PREDICTION
Liverpool 2-2 Arsenal
Both teams have similar issues, strengths, and weaknesses, and a draw may result.
Key men would be Alexis, Ozil, and Ox for Arsenal, while for Liverpool Coutinho’s performance amidst his transfer request would be telling.
