The New Premier League Season: Can Arsenal Kick Off With A Victory?
Season 2019/2020 is finally here and we are surely going to enjoy a lot of interesting games in the English Premier League this year. Can other teams keep up with Manchester City and Liverpool this time and make the title race much more interesting? There were many signings during the summer and lots of clubs are hoping to finish in the top four. Arsenal FC is starting the new campaign with a trip to St James’ Park to play Newcastle United in their first match.
This is going to be the second season for Unai Emery as The Arsenal’s head manager. Replacing Arsene Wenger and his football policy was not an easy task that is for sure. Ending the previous year in 5th place and losing the Europa League final to Chelsea can hardly be described as a success. Especially when city rivals Tottenham claimed the last UCL spot by one point. Missing on UEFA Champions League once again is going to be a big blow for the club, but at least they can fully focus on domestic competitions. Don’t be surprised to see mixed-up line ups for Europa League matches at the Emirates in upcoming months!
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had an amazing season and according to some of the best betting sites he is likely to repeat himself . He won the Premier League Golden Boot last season, and there is no doubt this Gabonese striker is going to represent a huge threat for all teams, especially when paired with Alexandre Lacazette. There were a couple of transfer rumors in July of Aubameyang being close to a move to Old Trafford, but nothing really happened. This attacking duo could get a lot of back up from two newcomers at the Emirates. The record-breaking signing of Nicolas Pepe from Lille didn’t go unnoticed. This player was one of the Ligue 1 MVP’s in the previous year, helping his team win 2nd place behind Paris SG and secure UEFA Champions League, scoring 22 times and adding 11 assists to his name. We can’t wait to see him in action in England!
The same goes for a youngster Gabriel Martinelli. He should be one of the biggest rising stars. A couple of appearances in the International Champions Cup last month revealed the potential of this winger. Arsenal’s main issues last season were tied to defending, so they surely have to improve there. It seems that the club has completed the transfer of Kieran Tierney from Celtic FC, and David Luis from Chelsea. Every little bit will help, as Laurent Koscienly is no longer the team’s captain and has left to continue his career in Bordeaux.
The first opponent for the Gunners – Newcastle United – is facing a rough period. Rafael Benitez is no longer at St James Park, deciding to continue a career in China’s Shanghai SIPG. Steve Bruce has decided to accept the job and become new head manager of the Magpies. When it comes to departures, fans are not happy with Ayoze Perez leaving the squad without having a decent replacement. This player has made a move to Leicester City. Another big blow is the end of a loan deal for Salomon Rondon who has returned to West Bromwich Albion.
When it comes to the recent head to head duels between these two teams, Arsenal FC should have a big advantage. The Gunners won 12 out of the last 13 meetings! Who is going to win this time?
Gunners Town is a premier Arsenal blogging platform for passionate and knowledgeable Gooners. Established in 2012, the site has garnered over 5 million views.
Actually United have a number of solid replacements for Perez in the likes of Muto, Gayle and new player Saint-Maximin. And Rondon has been replaced by two players – Joelinton and Andy Carroll (transferred from West Ham’s sick bay to ours!).
We’ve also strengthened both full back positions in what was one of the best defences in the EPL last season if you judge it by the “goals against” column.
Whether all of United’s new signings will actually play against Arsenal I can’t say – might be a bit early for them.
Its great to have footy back and should be a good game.
