The Long Wait
It’s been a minute hasn’t it? Since we competed, last year not withstanding…
Since we got “got rid of” the little praised Wenger, we’ve been a bit of a mess. Nobody will come out and say it. That man led us through some rough patches and tough times and made it all bearable with Champions League footy and a top 4 for 2 decades and no one blinked.
It was expected, it was our “right”.
A few years on and we now know that we were bloody lucky, That, “caretaker” and his band of misfits at times gave us such joy and competed on a level we didn’t really deserve.
A football savant that guided us through lean years we were spoiled to have.
Only after Emery and the Arteta takeover are we getting back to what we are. It’s a long haul from here but hopefully we look back at those glorious years with a sense of awe.
A gold trophy, the many “what if” campaigns… Whilst others were accumulating 116 charges of breaking the rules and the owner across town complicit in his country’s atrocities, we merely had a footballing genius guiding us through the bad times as a club which consisted of 20 years of CL and many near misses.
Given the social climate these days with the lies of United’s Rapey FC and City’s bathing in Saudi oil plus Chelsea exposing every loophole in the FFP manual, we can sit and be proud of our lot, our ‘almost’ seasons and what could have been have played in the background nonchalantly.
It’s been a long wait but for those tried and tested and with a bit of vision, the fun starts now – The right way.
As we sit this weekend, the pertinent thing that comes to mind is this:
How were we so effortless in our disdain for such a consistent dominance we never cherished?
This squad is special. Let us hope the man in charge is half as good as the one we took for granted for decades. I am not a Wenger apologist but his work deserves praise given what we’ve seen everywhere these last few years and currently.
Ready for Matchday 2. I believe this is the start of something special. Let’s hope the lads and the gaffer can fill the shoes of a legend that deserves much more praise than he ever has gotten.

Overseas Gooner since ‘91.
Rabid supporter.
You mean our former dictator Wenger? thank god he’s long gone. Arteta and Edu pushes the board to spend money to compete, and are not just content to pick up a salary like our former, once great, manager. He stayed way too long.
They should’ve made you Arsenal manager as you are clearly more knowledgeable about football than Wenger. And just to be clear: yes, this is sarcasm.
