Something’s wrong, but something’s right An Arsenal blog from a coach’s perspective Admission time. I have a big one. An admission, I mean. I have an excuse for this. I was about 7, I think. I hope anyway. My memory is that I preferred watching ice dancing to football when I was young. My admission didn’t […]
Far be it for me to ever put myself in the manager’s shoes, (as if we armchair pundits would ever be so bold), but if I was Mikel Arteta I would be in Leverkusen’s Bay Arena on Monday night. Not to say hello to Granit, as he will not be there, but to watch the […]
In this edition we look back on Saturday’s clash against Burnley at the Emirates. HIGHLIGHT Paul Hepker: Leo Trossard’s courage and commitment. He surely has to start every game. So consistent. Dave Seager: Zinchenko’s best game of the season and my MOTM. Does this give Arteta a new option? (See headlight) Steve Wellman: Zinny’s expertly […]
A glimpse of the mountain top An Arsenal blog from a coach’s perspective I wonder how many goals Arsenal have scored this season that were not scored by our striker. I never really research stats, but here goes. I’ll be right back. Ok, got it. We’ve scored 37 in all competitions and 26 were scored […]
Suffocation revelation An Arsenal blog from a coach’s perspective The result against Sevilla mattered. How much did the performance matter though? Not a huge amount beyond creating confidence and better habits. Part of me wants to say that this performance was the best of the season and the other part wants to say, ‘no way.’ […]
In this edition we look back on Saturday’s clash against Sheffield United at the Emirates. HEADLIGHT Steve Wellman: Apart from the obvious, 3 shots (on target), 3 goals from Eddie, the performances of Smith-Rowe and Havertz in the 8/10 roles. Without standing out, they both did what was needed and provided the links to the […]
‘Don’t watch the ball’ An Arsenal blog from a coach’s perspective Habits are really hard to change. They say when you are raising kids that you need to teach them the ways of the world very early as we all learn 80% of what is important in our lives by the age of eight. There […]
In this edition we look back on Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against Sevilla in Spain. HEADLIGHT Paul Hepker: The goal of the three Gabriels. Gabriel clears it to Gabriel, who Cruyff-turns and puts through Gabriel, who rounds the keeper to score. Gary Lawrence: The way Declan Rice is getting more influential week by week. […]
In this edition we look back on the Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. HEADLIGHT Paul Hepker: Declan Rice curveball impossibly finding side-netting from 50 yards. Dave Seager: Further evidence, if any were needed, that this group of players have a never say die spirit. An unwillingness to be beaten, which is a […]
Subs, Squad and Sunday League An Arsenal blog from a coach’s perspective There was a time in my early twenties where I’d figured out the absolute best way that a human can spend 24 hours. Here was the recipe… Saturday: Highbury at 3pm. The delightful smell and taste of the greatest partly grey cheeseburger with […]
