Two way battle for England winger

In the news today:

The Daily Mail believe it is a two horse race for England winger, Stewart Downing, between Arsenal and Liverpool. The Aston Villa player, who scored on the final day of the season against the latter of the interested parties, would command a seven figure sum with Randy Lerner (Villa Chairman) reluctant to part with his asset.

Downing, 26,  rose to fame following a loan spell at Sunderland [in 2003] before playing in the Middlesbrough side that reached the UEFA Cup final in 2006.

His performances have seen him collect 25 England appearances during his career, and a move to a top four club might seen that figure increase.

Aston Villa named Downing their Player of the Season this week in what has been a turbulant 12 months for the club.
