Cesc Fabregas could return to Arsenal, but not in his usual role

Cesc Fabregas 01

A big void in my life is that I’ve never been able to pronounce the word sgjljdhfouncen. I just can’t do it.

Another void, not Pink Floyd, in my life was not seeing Cesc Fabregas not win a trophy with Arsenal during his time at the club.

There are big rumours, and when I say big, I mean big as in that bloke who likes big butts and cannot lie big, that Arsene Wenger is looking to bring Cesc back to Arsenal this summer.

Now I dunno if this will happen. We thought he may move to the Emirates last summer. We also thought that Luis Suarez would move to the Emirates last year as our new star striker, but instead he ended up joining 888poker in an ambassadorial role and staying at Liverpool.

As far as Fabregas is concerned though, what I do know is that I’ve seen Gooners split on whether they’d like this to happen.

There’s all kinds of stories about the way he left us. I’ve heard he refused to play until he got his move, I’ve heard that Xavi kidnapped Cesc’s childhood teddy bear and refused to give it back until he moved, and I’ve also heard that Cesc wanted to get away from Alex Song but Song loves Cesc so much he went to Barcelona too.

Of course I can understand people’s reasons for not wanting him back. Many believe Fabregas did a massive dump on Arsenal and didn’t even flush. I see where people are coming from.

I’ll say this though. He was only leaving for Barca, and Barca only. It’s his hometown and maybe behind the scenes he kicked up a little bit to go back there but there’s no denying he loves Arsenal too.

People say he’d unbalance Arsenal by coming back, especially with Mesut Ozil in the side, but I think having him back makes sense.

I know Arsenal are loaded with technically brilliant midgets and people are desperate for a great, big, mean motherfucker who irons out the opposition but I believe Cesc could come back and play a deeper role at Arsenal than he did before.

I know what people are saying when they believe we did a strong defensive minded midfielder in the team but a midfield five of Cesc, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Ozil quite frankly makes me nearly wet myself with excitement.

Imagine them five and the option of Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud up top? Imagine them five with the back-up of Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky?

Sorry but I’ve just had to change my underwear six ti……seven times just writing those sentences.

As long as the teams shape is good then I believe it’d work. Another Patrick Vieira type would be smashing, but there’s only ever gonna be one Vieira. And he’s now getting on a bit.

Barcelona don’t really play with a strong defensive midfielder do they? They seem to do alright. They’ve got that player who sounds like a cookie, biscuits but, in my opinion, he’s not an enforcer. If Arsenal defended as a team, with better shape than the shapes I was throwing Sunday night after 10 Stellas, then it’d work. It’d work because those players are intelligent enough to make it work.

Go and do it Arsene. FFS.

Keep It Goonerish…

Well written my fellow gooner! Just simply, an amazing piece of literary artistic wonder.

He started playing for us as cover for Vieirra, moved up to central midfield and quickly started playing further forward so was converted to that.
Then we moulded him into an attacking midfielder, number 10 role.
Barca got him and flung him in as number 10 backup but then started using him as a false 9 which is basically another striker that sits back.
Now we wanna get him and bung him back in defensive mid.
Don’t really know what my point is but it sounded interesting in my head.
    the end.

Totally agree with @TommyGooner. It doesn’t make sense for him as a player to make that switch because he sacrifices those fantastic killer passes he’s used to doing.

Yes, we all love Cesc Fabregas but the fact remains that his return would mean he plays in the central midfield area he started out in. The Cesc Fabregas I loved to watch was supplying balls to central striker. I don’t seem him organizing the midfield.

Return of Fabregas at this point just doesn’t make sense. I just hope our love for the guy doesn’t prevent us from seeing that.
