Nigel Evans: Cazorla, Sanchez, Ramsey (purely because he’s Welsh)
Steve Wellman: Diaby = What Might Have Been, Podolski = Under Rated, Cazorla = Sublime.
Oil and water?
6) Lastly, if you could pick 1 player from the Emirates to play in the Invincibles team, who would you pick?
MarbleHallsTV: Alexis Sanchez. Pires and Ljungberg were excellent – but Alexis was more prolific as a goalscorer than them.
Alex Burns: The only two who come close to getting a place are Alexis or Fabregas. I would go with Alexis.
Matt Lorrimer-Roberts: If I had to chose one player that would play for the Invincibles from the Emirates era would most likely be Jack Wilshere just to see him play in that midfield and see how far he could go.
Mike McDonald: Santi Cazorla.
Gary Lawrence: I wouldn’t want anybody from the Emirates era to play in the Invincibles as it’s impossible to improve on perfection. But maybe Fabregas Ramsey or Sanchez as impact subs.
Dave Seager: It would be easy to say Cesc Fabregas but he simply would not fit. In the squad of course but not over Gilberto, Vieira or Dennis in their roles in that side. I would therefore have to say Sagna, simply as a better right back than Ralph.
Nigel Evans: think Santi Cazorla could have got in the invincibles team.
Steve Wellman: Santi for Gilberto. Nothing against Gilberto, but a top form Cazorla alongside Paddy would provide the base for the attacking four that would scare any side. Also would allow a switch to 4132 in attack & Pires, Santi and Freddie as the attacking midfield would be a wet dream in the making.
Thanks to all our team for their answers. Who would YOU choose? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
Surely James Howson has made a mistake or everyone else has! If Henry could play in the Emirates team he would have to take a place. Actually the team he was in would have to mould its play around him so a number of these selections would find themselves on the bench simply in case he was injured!
Incidentally, Gilberto was good but Vieira and Petit were the best pairing as a mid-field that I have ever seen playing for Arsenal. Witness- Despite his bluster on TV since, Keane disappeared when he was faced by those two. He presents himself on TV as the hard man who controlled Vieira. He did score goals against us but he played slightly further up than either of our two. Utd. had a good young midfield but with Vieira and Petit, we held them because muscle and skill trumps skill with inferior physique. Our overall game was balanced by power in defence and midfield allied to very mobile forwards and prolific scorers. We cant seem to find a balance these days and we wont get back into top 4 until we do.
Incidentally my choice as the most versatile sub would be Santi.
