A week on and still the ‘pundits’ are debating whether Romeo handled the ball.
Frank McAvennie (if you are under 30, google him) yesterday added this comment:
“You can always tell when players claim for a penalty. You can tell, when one or two do it is not a penalty but when they all do it, it is.”
And this seems to have hit a nerve with the FA and my sources tell me that an emergency meeting is being held ahead of Saturday’s fixtures to change how VAR works.
The 2 options being considered are:
1 – Fastest finger
2 – Voting
If Fastest Finger is adopted, upon entry into the ground all fans will be given an electronic voting pad and whenever VAR is called into action, the first fan to press their console makes the decision.
It is thought that this will speed up the VAR process and reduce added time in each half.
Option 2 will involve all fans in the stadium voting on a pre selected form and the security guards collecting all the ballots and handing them to the ref to count.
This is believed to be the preferred method as everyone gets their say.
The FA are not concerned about the time involved, as preliminary findings indicate that this process is no slower than the current VAR decision timeframes and could add additional advertising time.
