Why Spurs are to thank for Arsenal’s Premier League title surge this season

Thank You Tottenham Hotspur ?

3rd March 2013 was a day that all Arsenal fans dread.

It was a day of defeat in the North London Derby.

It was the start of a 24 hour period of Facebook silence for me, with my status being “I love Tottenham Hotspur” (a long running bet I have with my cousin in Madrid and a friend in Oslo).

Wellmo 1
It was also the turning point for this incarnation of The Arsenal and hopefully the foundation for our aspirations come May 2014.
Since this date we have played 30 league game league, with 24 wins, 58 goals for, 23 goals against and accrued a total of 71 points. We have also beaten Bayern Munchen and Borussia Dortmund, found Aaron Ramsey’s true form, found Olivier Giroud’s true role, compiled a midfield ‘squad’ that arguably is the envy of anyone else in the Premier League.
Wellmo 2And we’ve built a central defensive partnership that has so many strikers in their respective pockets, an additional bus is required to travel to each game.
Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker
To emphasise The Arsenals form, we amassed  a total of 79 points in 2013 (Champions if the season was Jan to Dec)
Played     Points
Arsenal.      37.           79
Man City.   36.           74
Chelsea.      37.           74
Man Utd.    36.           71
So ‘Thank You Tottenham Hotspur’, you gave us the kick up the arse we needed.
Kick up the arse
Bring on May 2014!
TheSundayMorningGooner: it’s blasphemous, I know !!
PS: Interesting fact number 1 – Only Robin van Persie (107), Wayne Rooney(93) and Luis Suarez(74) have more goals and assists than Theo Walcott (65) in the last four Premier League seasons. (He will be missed, ‘Feed the Ox’)
PPS: Interesting fact number 2 – When Gedion Zelalem makes his debut for The Arsenal, he will be the first player to play for Arsenal to be born after Arsene Wenger became manager!
PPPS: Interesting fact number 3 – That makes me feel really old.
